Aaron, nick-named “Bugs”, made his Olympic debut at the 2016 Rio Games after he secured Australia’s first Triathlon quota spot having finished 6th at the 2015 Rio Test Event. Aaron and training partner Ryan Bailie gave Australia its first dual top ten finishers in men’s triathlon history at Fort Copacabana after Aaron was the first Australian out of the water in the swim, ensuring he was well inside the top 10.
Aaron grew up in Newcastle and was drawn to the sport after his parents asked him to choose between swimming and running, instead he added a bike leg and fell in love with triathlon.
In his first year on the senior Triathlon Australia Team, in 2012, Aaron proved he was a force to be reckoned with after being crowned U23 World Champion.
Spending half his year in Wollongong, as part of the illustrious “Wollongong Wizards”, Aaron trains alongside fellow selected team member Ryan Bailie and two-time women’s World Champion Gwen Jorgensen. The 25-year-old spends the remaining of the year in the Wizards training base in Vitoria, Spain, and makes frequent appearances on the ITU World Triathlon Series circuit.
