Asiago will host the Winter Triathlon European Championships and World Triathlon Winter Cup

The Italian mountain town of Asiago will welcome once again the best winter triathletes of the world, and especially Europeans, for the 2022 Europe Triathlon Winter Championships and World Cup Asiago, that will take place on the weekend of 18-19 February, 2022.

After hosting the Winter Triathlon World Championships in 2019 and 2020, and the World Triathlon Winter Cup in 2021, the Italian Triathlon Federation and the local organisers of Asiago have now taken up the challenge of hosting the European Championships on top of the World Cup.

The double international event will give life to a great festival dedicated to winter triathlon in Asiago, with the best European and world elite athletes competing, as well as Age Groupers, which will be able to compete at the European Championships. The event will host as well the Italian Winter Triathlon Circuit.

Riccardo Giubilei, president of the Italian Triathlon Federation, said:  “Winter Triathlon is a discipline in which our Federation has decided to invest a lot, starting from the creation of the Winter Triathlon Italian Circuit which will be hosted in four renowned Alpine locations”. “Asiago will be a very long and intense weekend - continues Giubilei - we will start on Friday with the international elite and junior competitions, Saturday is the turn for the Mixed Relay, Para and Age Group races while on Sunday, on top of the European Championships and Winter Cup, there will be space for the Winter Duathlon open and promotional competitions, an important moment for the Italian movement “.

“I am really happy to be able to confirm that the European Winter Triathlon Championships will take place in Asiago - says Renato Bertrandi, president of Europe Triathlon - This discipline has not yet expressed its full potential, but to have the most important European event in a location that has demonstrated high organizational standards over the years, it will be a guarantee for Elite athletes and Age Groupers who will battle for the first European title of the 2022 season. Furthermore, I want to thank FITRI and the organizing committee for their availability”, he said.
