Eleven teams to do battle for the Duathlon Mixed Relay World Championship in Targu Mures
The final action of the World Triathlon Multisport World Championships hits the streets of central Targu Mures on Sunday afternoon, as the teams line up in the city for the chance to become the 2022 Duathlon 2x2 Mixed Relay World Champions.
The course snakes around the beautiful Ascension Cathedral and Targu Mures Fortress, each athlete tackling a super-sprint two-lap (1.6km) run, two-lap (5.4km) bike and one-lap (800m) run, before tagging their teammate and then going all over again.
The men’s world champion Krilan Le Bihan joins Marion Le Goff in what looks like a potent combination for Team France, Le Goff having proven her skills with 8th place on World Triathlon debut on Friday.
The Belgian rivalry will be reignited once more, however, with two teams representing: Arnaud Dely & Maurine Ricour and Thibaut De Smet & Eleonore Hiller. De Smet was crowned the Cross Duathlon World Champion and U23 Duathlon World Champion in what has been a busy week for the rising star – can he make it three wins from three with the help of Junior silver medallist Hiller?
Dely finished one spot behind him in Friday’s race but is himself a former U23 World and European Champion, and will form a strong team with Riccour.
Netherlands’ Cross Duathlon revelation Noor Dekker takes to the start line full of confidence after her bronze on Monday in the Transylvanian forest and lines up with former national champion Thomas Cremers.
The hugely experienced Giorgia Priarone looked in flying form in Friday’s individual race and is joined by 2021 Junior World Champion Alberto Bartolomo Demarchi for the Italians, Priarone just missing out on the podium in the individual race and hungry for a podium.
