Liber Garcia reelected President of Americas Triathlon
Liber Garcia (Uruguay) has been reelected President of Americas Triathlon at the Congress held in Vina del Mar, Chile, during the Pan American Games 2023. Garcia enters his third term as Americas president, and he is also seating at the World triathlon Executive Board along with all the other Continental Presidents.
“It is truly a pleasure and an honor to be re-elected”, said Liber Garcia after the Congress. “I am committed with elevating our sport in the Continent, not only in terms of elite athletes but also events, technical officials and Development programmes. We have grown a lot in the last years, we are united as a Continent, our voice is always heard internationally, and we will continue to work in this path. I want to thank all the National Federations that have put their trust on me, and also to World Triathlon and especially President Marisol Casado for their continuous support to all our activities”, he said.
Garcia was unanimously elected as President, Karen Araujo (TTO) as Vice President while Nelly Becerra (MEX) was voted as Secretary General of Americas Triathlon and Kelly Mora (ECU) as Treasurer. Ernesto Pitanga (BRA); Juan Manuel Velasco (COL) and Arnaldo Sanchez (VEN) were elected Executive Board members. Also members of the Board are Gabriella Gallegos (USA), as a representative of North America; Cesar Rosales (GUA), representative of Central America & the Caribbean and Orlando Eugenio Arauz (ARG), representative of South America.
World Triathlon President and IOC Member, Marisol Casado, expressed her support to the re-elected President and the top management of Americas Triathlon. “It is fantastic to see how the sport has grown in the last years in the Americas, not only because we have more events at the top level internationally, but also hosting events, investing in technical officials, development programmes… and how the Continent is committed with gender balance”. That’s the way to go, and I want to congratulate Liber and his whole team for the achievements in the last years, and especially to all the women in America that have pout Americas Triathlon as a reference in terms of gender balance, with many women taking relevant positions at all levels”.
During Congress, Javier Mon, coordinator of Development, presented the annual report of athletes and coaches, while Felix Molina presented the 2024 events calendar. Graciela Jurado, member of the World Triathlon Womens Commission and President of the Americas Triathlon Womens Commission, presented the annual report and all iniciatives that have been implemented in the last months.
Eugenia Arauz (ARG); Ricardo Neves (BRA); Esteban Benitez (MEX); Paul Brandt (USA); Rolando Herrera (CUB); Manuel Garcia (URU) and Rosanna Galvez (VEN) were elected as members of the Technical Committee. Elections also took place for the Development Commission, the Medical Commission and the Age-Group Commission. Alberto Fonollosa (ARG) and Maria Cristina Gonzalez (CRC) were voted as new Honorary Members of Americas Triathlon.
