World Triathlon embraces equity for 2023 International Women’s Day

World Triathlon will honour 2023 International Women’s Day (IWD) by hosting an online panel discussion with women from around the world, hosted by the Women’s Committee and focussing on this year’s theme ‘Embrace Equity’.
Everyone is welcome to attend the panel discussion and hear from the inspiring line-up of speakers on Wednesday, 8th March via a virtual meeting. There will also be an opportunity for members of the community to participate in question time with the panellists. The World Triathlon Women’s Committee is responsible for promoting equal opportunity and inclusion for all to participate in every aspect of the sport of Triathlon, Paratriathlon and Multisport including as Technical Officials and Athletes. Equity is a must-have in sport. A focus on gender equity is an integral part of all do within World Triathlon.

The aim of the 2023 IWD 2023 #EmbraceEquity campaign theme is to get the world talking about why true inclusion and belonging require equitable action. Join World Triathlon President and IOC Member Marisol Casado, the World Triathlon Women’s Committee including Chair Tomoko Wada, World Triathlon Executive Board Member and an inspiring line-up of guests for the 2023 International Women’s Day Panel:

Nelly Becerra, 2022 World Triathlon Women’s Committee Award of Excellence Recipient. Nelly has been an exceptional role model for all male and female triathletes and has dedicated her career to creating spaces where other women can enter and participate in the sport of triathlon, in a safe, welcoming and fun environment. She has been a leader, covering positions as a technical official, executive member in the federation, has been an elected member of the World Triathlon Women’s Committee, coached male and female triathletes and helped develop women to work in triathlon in managerial roles.

Dr Dina Altayeb is a periodontist, a mother of three, a retired assistant professor and in her spare time is an endurance triathlete.

Afraa Al Majar, a young Emirati who completed 30 triathlons in 30 days in 2022. Her goal, is to encourage others to get active and to raise money for cancer patients at Al Jalilah Foundation.

Najla Al-Jeraiwi, is a Triathlon coach in Kuwait and has been a pioneering force in Arabic sport as an equestrian show jumper, cyclist and now triathlete and coach who graduated from the Women’s Sport Leadership Academy (WSLA) High-Performance Coach course, that began back in 2019.

During International Women’s Day World Triathlon will share content pieces on the various digital channels which celebrate the women of the World Triathlon community and the notion of equality and inclusion.
