“The World Triathlon Development welcomes fourteen newly trained facilitators to the TRI Facilitator Community. Since 2017 this has been the first facilitator course aiming to increase and level up our Spanish-speaking facilitator capacity in the Americas. The participants finally could benefit from World Triathlon Facilitator Training online content that was developed on the Education & Knowledge Hub before the COVID-19 pandemic hit the world.  This was the first time that candidates were trained specifically for online delivery as well. The next step for the newcomers will be to get familiar with TRI educational systems and assign them for courses where they will get further mentorship and guidance from fellow facilitators.

PARA TRIATHLON
2023 World Para Triathlon Classifiers Revalidation E-Course

Since February, World Triathlon hosted two sessions for all existing senior classifiers wishing to re-validate their certification. New material was implemented for the educational material while classifiers from levels 1 and 2 had to also complete modules from the education hub for this purpose. Those that have been recertified can continue classifying internationally, be assigned as Chief Classifiers for an event and also assist with National Classification. The validity of this certification will last till the end of 2024 when World Triathlon will assess the need to re-validate once again for the full Paralympic cycle if there are changes to the classification system.
In January, we conducted the first face-to-face course since September 2019 for National Classifiers. The pandemic delayed this from happening earlier but more courses are expected to be delivered at the end of 2023 and in 2024. In the 2023 Stockholm World Triathlon Para Triathlon Classification National Course, there were participants from FIN, SWE, ITA, NOR, IRL, ROU and JPN, 11 people in total.

TECHNICAL OFFICIALS EDUCATION
America and Asia take up the Technical Officials Community E-seminars and develop local technical officials’ capacity

World Triathlon Technical Officials Community E-seminar has been developed to allow for individuals to participate in the community-level course online without physically attending a course. This particular course is providing the basic knowledge that someone needs to have around event organisation and competition rules. It will guide seminar participants to make sure that all World Triathlon events are guided by World Triathlon Competition Rules, the Event Organisers Manual and all other appropriate World Triathlon Competition Rules and Guidelines so that our events are safe and fair for all athletes. This course will prepare technical officials who are in the first few years of their international triathlon officiating experience.

The Polish Triathlon Union hosted a World Triathlon Technical Officials Level 1 Seminar in the capital city of Warsaw in order to train a new set of local Technical Officials contributing to the 2023 Krakow-Maloposlka European Games in June. The NF fully funded the seminar.
The course was led by Howard Vine (GBR), World Triathlon TO Facilitator:
“This was a very critical seminar for the Polish Federation and Technical Officials as they are hosting the Krakow-Malopolska European Games this year. This seminar assisted them greatly in educating their Technical Officials up to National Technical Official Level 1 in time for this important Games in June 2023.”

Technical Officials Revalidation E-seminars started
The Technical Officials Level 1 Revalidation E-Seminar (Spanish) started on the 3rd of April. 91 TOs from 11 NFs and 2 continents signed up to the course.  Technical Officials Level 2 Revalidation E-Seminar started in mid-April as well. 117 TOs from 33 NFs and 5 continents signed up to the course.

COACH EDUCATION
2023 Certificate Revalidation of Coaches
2023 has been the sixth year of World Triathlon’s annual Certificate Revlaidation of Coaches (CRoC). The number of participating coaches continues to rise in absolute terms (710 individuals took part this year). As in previous years, Level 2 coaches are significantly more active in this process.

On a National Federation Level the majority of participating NFs are in the top cluster in terms of their relative participation (revalidating individuals vs all certified coaches), but some of these NFs have very few certified coaches. As a new initiative, from 2023 World Triathlon continuously provides pay-based revalidation opportunities to coaches who for some reason could not maintain their certification.

I hope these activities will increase the visibility of triathlon and the new triathlon federation in Bosnia in Herzegovina.”

“One of the coaches was satisfied with the way how world triathlon is delivering the course because his experience with the other sports coaches education was more dictating type and our facilitating style and involving all groups in the process was something that all groups agreed to like.”

OLYMPIC SOLIDARITY
Olympic Solidarity Scholarship for Coaches - Dorian Roach (BAH)

Dorian Roach, president of the Bahamas Triathlon Association attended the XIII International Coaching Enrichment Certificate Program (ICECP) . The ICECP is offered to National Olympic Committees (NOCs) worldwide through a partnership between Olympic Solidarity, the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) and the University of Delaware (UD). More than 460 participants from 120 countries and 35 sports have participated in the course since its inception in 2008.

Thirty-one coaches from 27 nations and 17 sports received diplomas. To date, the ICECP has reached a total of 457 participants from 125 nations and 39 sports since its inception in 2008

As part of the programme Dorian Roach developed an introductory coaching course for his local coaching community in the Bahamas. The project presentation and the graduation ceremony took place in Lausanne, Switzerland from 20-25 April 2023. On this occasion, Dorian visited the World Triathlon Headquarters as well.
“I felt very honored and privileged to be part of the ICECP program that was supported by Olympic Solidarity, the US Olympic and Paralympic Training Center (USOPTC) and the University of Delaware.  The program was a mix of intensive online training, in-person training, and an internship with Spencer Parker, Head Coach of Project Podium, a USA Triathlon Development Team. The almost three-year course (thanks to covid) provided me access to great coaches, facilitators, facilities and most importantly, other coaches like me who are eager to share their wealth of knowledge.  Great friendships were made along the way to completing my project, an Introductory to Triathlon Coaching course for The Bahamas Triathlon Association. This has now motivated me to work on similar projects that can be used for the Bahamas, and the rest of the Caribbean,” said Dorian Roach (BAH).
